The Buryats had the system of ecological principles built many years ago and historical caused: it’s humane and moral attitude to the nature. It can be called a certain philosophy of such attitude to the nature built on respect and awe to the nature.

The nature was considered to be not only place for living, but very important condition for well-being, richness, happiness and health. The Buryats called themselves as an indivisible part of the nature. They considered to be nature’s children.

For many years the Buryats have been respecting the sacred Shaman places which could be called nowadays as the nature’s reserves. The people couldn’t use anything on the territory of such reserves: no land, no trees, animals, grasses or rivers. These places were under protecting of old religions — Shamanism and Buddhism.

That’s why may be these places were saved in its unique art in Siberia, they were protected from the unavoidable destruction in the modern times, flora and fauna, nature’s richness of ecological systems and landscapes have been saved. And this is a great service of Shaman religion.

The system of nature’s protection was confirmed by the state and humane law. So in the Mongolian State (the times of Chingiskhan) was the law called “Yasse”: it was forbidden to cause any profanation to the nature on the territory of this state. The fact of such profanation could entail very serious consequences, sometimes executions.

The Baikal Lake was idolized by the Buryat people and they had very careful and touching attitude to the Lake and called it a “sacred great Sea” (Ekhe dalai). It was forbidden to cause any rudeness on its shores, no quarrel. The Buryat became revived from the Lake and Space.
